SPEQ was created by me, Mike, a lifelong athlete with a passion for games and gear. I’ve always been fascinated by how companies develop their products to enhance the playing experience. My tennis journey began in 2021 during Covid, and it quickly became an obsession. Naturally, this led me to explore tennis equipment in search of the right fit, but I found that all the information was scattered across different formats, from various experts or panels. So, the idea for SPEQ was born: a one-stop community for all things sports equipment.

SPEQ is short for Sports Equipment, but it’s also a nod to “spec,” as in specifications. Here, we’re all about nerding out on the details, from weights and dimensions to feel and performance. Our mission is simple: to help athletes and enthusiasts of all levels find the best gear for their game. We understand that the right gear can be a game-changer, but with so many options available, it can get overwhelming. SPEQ brings together the community’s reviews, ratings, and real-world experiences to make choosing equipment easier.

SPEQ scores are powered by the shared experiences of athletes within our community. Everyone rates equipment on the same set of detailed characteristics, so you get unbiased and comparable ratings grounded in a large sample size. This approach allows you to dive into the numbers with confidence, comparing ratings across different racquets (or any other equipment) to find the best match. We also leave room for players to share their personal thoughts and opinions, so you get both the numbers you can trust and the nuanced feedback that only real users can provide.
